Gloriosa
Gloriosa is a genus of Colchicaceae (formerly Liliaceae) from South Africa. Bulbs out long stems that climb like vines with tendrils which are fitted the ends of the leaves.

All parts of these plants are very toxic, much richer in crocus colchicine than themselves. The flowers form a very curious normally appear in early summer. They were used to illustrate stamps in the United States, South Africa and elsewhere in the world.

The Gloriosa can be grown in pots but they also succeed very well in open ground as soon as the danger of frost has disappeared. They can Palisser along a trellis. The bulbs should be planted between 5 and 10 cm deep and generously spaced. The soil should be kept moist but not soggy and it is good to provide regular fertilizer.

After flowering the stems dry out, then we can eject or pull tubers (carefully, they are relatively fragile) and store in dry sand, after possibly sprinkled with powdered sulfur to prevent rot. It can also be left in their pots, provided to stop all watering.

It meets frequently under the single name Gloriosa superba L. various forms known to tepals more or less tense and colors ranging from scarlet to yellow spots or with lemon-colored wine.
