The Stone Crushing Fern

The stone crushing fern (Asplenium trichomanes) is a family sailing boat from the stripe (Aspleniaceae). The plant grows on rocky walls and ground. In the Netherlands, rare species, where the plant is more common in Limburg. The plant in the Netherlands is legally protected.


The blades are usually 20 cm long, but leaves wet spots may reach 40 cm in length. They are simply pinnate. The leaflets are somewhat oblong or round and are dark in color. In the second year, the section leaves off. The midrib is later. The petiole and midrib are black to dark brown.


The spores (sori), which consist sporangiƫn, are long and thin. They mature between May and October.
