Gerbera and its Distribution

Gerbera
Gerbera is the botanical and also the German name of a plant species and their cultivars. The genus belongs to the plant family Asteraceae (Asteraceae).

Distribution
The spread is Old World. Today, there are approximately 30 species occur in nature, mainly in Africa, Madagascar and tropical Asia. Most species are there in South Africa (Capensis). There are eight species in Madagascar and it is only about six species are native to Asia.

The many varieties are mostly crosses between Gerbera jamesonii and another South African species such as Gerbera Gerbera viridifolia. The crossings are called Gerbera hybrids.
